The Bingo Association Ltd – Annual General Meeting 2024

9 May 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The upcoming BA AGM takes places on Thursday May 9th from 12 noon at The Hallam Conference Centre, 44 Hallam Street, London, W1W 6JJ.

The morning session is taken up with formal business such as approving the accounts and the appointment of auditors for 2024/25.

As a closed session, it is also time for BA and NBGA members to quiz CEO Miles Baron the on future direction of the two organisations. Miles will provide members with a brief overview of the year gone and the year to come, outlining any strategic challenges.

For licensed bingo operators who believe the industry needs a powerful and independent voice the AGM is a must attend event in their diaries!

Following lunch, starting at 2pm the afternoon session gives members and their guests a slightly broader view of the outlook for businesses in the upcoming year.

The BA looks to provide a rounded view through the regulatory, economic, customer, technology, and political perspective.

We are delighted to welcome Andrew Rhodes, CEO of the Gambling Commission to set the scene from the position of the regulator. We hope by the time of the AGM that the details of the White Paper have been published and there will be much for the regulator to dwell on.

In addition, Andrew will no doubt touch on the new Gambling Survey for Great Britain, and whether in his view BA concerns about the survey are well founded. Better evidence, better outcomes is a strong theme from the GC Spring Conference and so we expect Andrew to expand on these areas.

We also await the outcome of several GC led proposals to amend the LCCP, it would be helpful to have these outcomes in the public domain by 9th May.

The BA are very privileged to have Chris Sanger (Global Government & Risk Tax Leader) and Peter Arnold ( UK Chief Economist EY) present on all things past and present from an economic perspective. These ‘two big hitters’ from the corporate world bring forecasts and statistics together in a way that we can all understand and appreciate.

No self-respecting bingo industry event would take place without the customer view. We welcome our industry research partner Sevanta Comres to summarise our latest Spring Tracker and the trends they have seen over the last few years.

After a short break we are delighted to introduce debutant Professor Michael Wooldridge, professor of computer science at Oxford University. Having watched Michael ‘wow’ the audience at the GC Spring Conference earlier this year, Michael will demystify the world of AI, and how developments in this area may impact the way land-based hospitality and leisure (including gambling) businesses operate.

The political landscape is then discussed and dissected by the well-known political journalist Kevin Maquire from the Daily Mirror, often a lighthearted but fascinating dive into the world of Westminster.

We finish with a footnote speech from Stephanie Peacock, MP for Barnsley East, and Shadow Minister for DCMS, who if the election follows the opinion polls, could be our new gambling minister.

We always welcome questions from the floor, but the complimentary drinks reception seems to reduce the motivation for too many, and we retire to the bar to network and digest the day’s events.

The morning is a closed session, but we welcome guests to the afternoon session via your registration form sent to Sharon Salmon at Sharon@nationalbingo.co.uk, however we are often over subscribed and attendance is not guaranteed!

I look forward to seeing you for what undoubtedly will be another great event.
